Everyone is a critic…

I can not understand how high school kids with narrow perspectives on the world assume the right to criticize the decisions of world leaders. The public’s view of what really goes on, its causes and its effects is heavily obscured by the lack of proper channels of information.
Whether or not the right decisions are being made is not a question of whether or not you perceive your country to be doing the right thing, it’s a question of whether or not your leaders are trustworthy.

You will never know everything that goes on and you will rarely even know enough to be able to form relevant arguments that people who are closer to the matters at hand won’t be able to refute. If you do trust your elected officials then take comfort in that your will is being carried out through them, no matter what distorted dramas the media may create.

If, however, you don’t trust your leaders..(and I hope your reasons are valid) the only opinion you should adopt and preach about is the one of distrust

I think it’s so funny that someone I don’t even know who it is (Gayatri?) is posting comments on my schoolblog. I see how it can be very upsetting reading a highschool kid’s view on what America is doing. It is truly not my meaning to sound ever-knowing, or wise. Let’s face it, I’m seventeen and I don’t know 1% of what’s going on in the world. But I think that not understanding that I am a student trying to learn and expand my world, is pretty narrow-minded, as Gayatri said I was. I have my little window, and I try to look out and gain information. But that window is dependent on media and their preferable twist on news storys. And it’s true what Gayatri says, I don’t think a lot of Americans actually know what’s going on. I mean, it’s classified information, we’re not supposed to know! I wasn’t particularly interested in politics or the government before I got into this civics class, all I know I’ve learned during 3 weeks. My posts are just responses to what my teacher has asked, based on the information he has given me. So this blog is not a place to come to for very wise thoughts, as I’m sure you have not, you seem wise yourself, but it is a small view from inside my head. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot more about this Guantanamo situation, and maybe post some more when my point of view changes.

I don’t “assume the right to criticize the decisions of world leaders”, I believe the US gov’t knows what they’re doing. As Gayatri, I get annoyed when people criticize the President. I mean, do it yourself! I believe it’s hard work and it takes a lot of knowledge and good decision-making.

Please post and expand my knowledge.

Peace out// sanna

Sanna, I wrote about your post over on my blog. Personally, I think your reflection here is very wise and honest, and gives you a great opportunity to learn. I too think that I can learn a lot from the people who post at my blog. These are great spaces to write about your thinking, to put it out there and see what others think. Thanks for sharing it, and I hope you learn much from your efforts.

Well, I think it is all about the conversation. I enjoy listening, reading and responding to young people. Keep reflecting and writing and it is all about the conversation.
